It's a very good historical overview of the artist teacher

It's a very good historical overview of the artist teacher, however, it is challenging as an instructor
to use it as a textbook as it is not very interactive and is more or less a compilation of essays.

A great step in understanding how to "learn" art.

The book Artist Teacher by G. James Daichendt is a fantastic insight into the structure of an Artist Teacher. The book goes into details concerning the origin and evolution of the term Artist Teacher bringing forth old ideas and strategies towards teaching the ever changing subject of art. The Artist Teacher book has definitely opened my eyes to the ways that a teacher should approach a student when instructing and has also encouraged me to step it up as a student and grasp whatever I can gain from my art instructors but has also made me realize that a lot of learning art is practice, drive, and heart.
The writing style of the book was very easy to follow as the different eras of art teaching was split into chapters perfectly with explanations at the end. It is clearly evident how much research and study Daichendt poured into this, and in the end, everyone benefits from it.

Never really understood Art.

So I am a Math/Science guy and one thing in this world that I never really understood was Art... I always expected to leave this earth never really understanding why people think a 16th century portrait painted in oil on poplar panel in Florence by Leonardo da Vinci was so admired.
Artist-Teacher really breaks down art in a way that I could start to appreciate it, as understanding art has always escaped me. The book is easy to read, flows well, and is highly educational. Still have a ways to go to really get it, but after reading this book, I feel I am ready to start exploring and appreciating art in a way that I never thought would be possible for me.
