Wow! This is one Sexy read that is for sure! Scorchingly hot scenes, I enjoyed the characters, Will is very sweet, sexy and romantic, some parts a little bit far fetched but this story sure is sexy as hell. The� writer's descriptions of their surroundings makes you feel like your there with the characters, very quick and spicy read. It took me literally by surprise!��I love the fact that author Elodie Parkes fully developed the characters instead of just giving superficial highlights of them. The contrast between the rainy conditions and the scorching physicality between the two main characters is very clever and exotic. Any reader would love to be a willing participant in the passionate embraces showcased at the beginning of the novel.��I also appreciate the fact that both points of view of the main characters were included in the novel. Most of the time, the female's thoughts are highlighted in romance novels. This change from the norm is a plus because it gives the realistic impression that men experience inner emotional turmoil in relationships. This book is hot! I recommend it to all readers who need a vicarious shot of sexy romance in their lives.

A tempest that has nothing to do with weather

Much to her displeasure, Holly's initial passionate relationship with Rob has cooled to the point of being nonexistent. She hopes their trip to a beach resort will change that although sharing a room with a girlfriend rather than Rob does not foretell a great outcome. A sudden and unexpected storm drives her, along with a crowd of other people, from the beach and into a shelter. When a male hand slips under her short beach dress to begin caressing her, she feels that maybe things between her and Rob are about to change. They are, but not in the way, she expected. Unexpected Storm is a great short story written by Ms. Parkes that is filled with steamy erotic romance, plot twists and well-developed characters. A must read rating 5 Stars.

Summer, erotic must read

This short erotic romance was the perfect beach read, and it hooked me right away. Holly the heroine takes a chance on going with the delicious Will to his villa. But who could resist such a sexy hero? Will and Holly are engaging characters and the description of the beach resort is lovely, makes you feel as if you're there. The love scenes sizzle, and the surprise ending was one that I didn’t see coming. Two thumbs up for this entertaining, sultry break. Ms Parkes is quickly becoming a must read for me.

The perfect beach read!

A quick read dealing with Holly, a woman trying to rekindle her short-lived relationship with her boyfriend, and Will the local surfing instructor. The meet during a brief summer storm as they shelter in a shack on the beach with several others. They hit it off and Holly agrees to go back to Will's place...Torn between the two men, a surprise makes Holly's decision easy and the book moves quickly from there. Great story, good characters and great scenery!!

I don't know why there are so many 5-star reviews.

I purchased Learning Pandas based on the steady stream of 5-star reviews here on Amazon, but the reviews completely let me down on this one. I've only started learning Pandas in the past week or so and I find this book way too basic, with little detail. Honestly, at around the page 250 of 480, all you've done is imported data from a CSV file, print rows or columns to screen, deleted and added a column or row. At this point, you still haven't any aggregated or summarized any data yet. In addition, the items covered to that point were not covered in depth.

I did check the Table of Contents before purchasing, but what threw me off were all the 5-star reviews from people who claim it's their job using scientific libraries, or they've been using pandas for awhile. Because of these reviews and the length of the chapters, I though there would be some "comprehensive insights" or "powerful data manipulations" as some reviewer say... some real meat that would be conceptual, comprehensive and/or practical in these pages. But nope, you learn a useless function called "twiceprice" which takes a column of stock prices and multiplies it by 2. What a useless, un-insightful, un-practical example. Most of the examples don't use real life data, he just uses series of a,b,c and 1,2,3.

Practical examples and useful reference content

I've been working with the pandas library for a while but had been looking for a text to help navigate the rich feature set of the pandas library. I purchased this book as soon as it became available and I'm quite satisfied with the content.

I skipped the first few chapters, but if you are new to Python and using Python packages, do be sure to go through the content.

The next couple of chapters discuss the inner workings of pandas DataFrame and Series. Worth going through as it provides a foundation for the remainder of the book's examples.

Around chapter 6 is where the application examples dig in and they are quite useful. I've referred to many of these examples. They include reading and writing data with different data sources, slicing and dicing data and running stats on your data.

Examples towards the end of the book get progressively sophisticated with shaping data. I didn't read everything in those chapters, but towards the end of the book are some chapters on data visualization and working with time series data. Definitely a "must" if you are looking to make use of pandas in your data analysis work.

I keep this ebook in my reference collection and refer to it when in need to figure out how to solve a data issue where pandas might be a good fit. A helpful book in the Python + data space.

getting to know indexes and look-ups

I've been learning pandas for a few months and really looked forward to a new reference. While I've read most of Kinney's book (he started the package) I've found the concepts around indexing and the multiple ways to access data a bit difficult, especially coming from an R/dataframe background. The series and dataframe chapters in Heydt's book clarified a number of things for me about the use of .loc, .loc[] and .ix. I especially got confused with Panda's auto-indexing feature and how if you have an integer index and pass myData[2] you might get the row with the index label 2 or you might get the third row if Pandas added an auto-incrementing index (or your integer index is sorted and complete). I liked the explanation in this book. Pandas is really powerful and while I'll continue to use R/dplyr/etc for many tasks, I'm increasingly finding Pandas and python super useful. Note for GIS applications using Arc, it is relatively easy to move from a filegeodatabase to a numpy array to Pandas and back. This has been great for doing a lot of calculations with really big feature sets.

Broad and full of info- but not enough to teach you crim pro

I took my crim pro final today. This study guide is okay. It is good for review- if you know the information, it is not good to help you make up for a whole semester's worth of being underprepared. If that is what you are looking for- I would look into a more comprehensive guide, or purchasing a course specific outline from a service.

Beyond that, it crams a lot of information into a small amount of space. It touches on the major findings and the cases they come from. Not nearly detailed enough to actually teach you crim pro though. For that you need to read the case law or criminal procedure code.

BarCharts are a great - but condensed - overview of the black letter law.

What BarCharts are NOT: a comprehensive study guide. You cannot do well on a law school exam or bar exam relying solely upon BarCharts. That is not their purpose.

What BarCharts ARE: a condensed overview of the black letter law. Use them as a quick reference to understand the material during the semester. Use them as a REVIEW of the material you (should) have already studied for the exam.

In law school, BarCharts were the last thing I skimmed over before taking an exam. It's a good refresher.

Same with the bar exam. I skimmed over my BarCharts both nights before the exam.

Excellent book for learning QlikView.

Just finished this book. The book is great for learning QlikView. The question and answer format is a very natural way of learning the concepts. The exercises were easy to follow.
I liked the way each and every concept is explained with the scenario. Within no time a person can learn and understand all the concepts.
The commonly asked questions section will help in understanding and responding to the real situation.
This book makes a good combination with the author's other book, QlikView Essentials.

Very helpful

This book was recommended to me by a colleague. Book covered all the concepts using different scenarios. It was helpful to learn which techniques to use in different situations. Author also have youtube videos on the book. It feels like a personalized training. This book can be of great help in interviews and certification preparation as it covers all the different scenarios. Question and Answer format helped in remembering the concepts.

i thought that this would be a book here it is a CD. i would of preferred the book over the CD at least you will not have worry about damage to the book as much CD. 1 thing not a complaint but on the cover shows a boy nude made me think it is a naturist book here that is a lie. convenient but easy to loose. yeah has a couple of hundred pages in the whole book some of theme are great. but the pictures are so small you can zoom in but that can get old.

About the Author
Bob McCune is an iOS developer and instructor from Minnesota. He started developing for the Mac in 2007 and then switched to iOS when the first iPhone SDK was released in 2008. He is the owner of TapHarmonic, LLC, a small iOS consulting and training company based out of MN. Bob also founded the MN chapter of CocoaHeads in the spring of 2008 and remains the group leader to this day. Bob and his wife, Linda, have two amazing children who are who are growing up faster than he would like. He is incredibly blessed to have such a loving and supportive family.

Great book!

I've been developing with QuickTime since about 2000, and we have quite a history together. So you can imagine my surprise when the AV Foundation framework was introduced for iOS 4 at WWDC in 2010. It was a modern 64-bit media framework that seemed to do a lot of what we were using QuickTime for. Hmmm... It was much less of a surprise when AV Foundation was bought "back to the Mac" in Lion (OS X v10.7), and it was no surprise at all when the QuickTime and QTKit frameworks were deprecated in Mavericks (OS X v10.9) in favor of AV Foundation.

This is the modern way with Cocoa: a framework developed for one platform becomes available for both iOS and OS X, and having become familiar with its classes and methods on one platform you're in good shape to use it everywhere. "Learning AV Foundation" admirably reflects the modern way, with sample apps for both platforms and discussion of differences where they exist.

Since I'm keen to leave QuickTime behind, I dove right in. I really wish there were more technical books like this. Stylistically it reminds me of Aaron Hillegass' "Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X" except focused on the vast AV Foundation framework and its entourage (AVKit, Core Media, Core Audio, Core Video, Core Animation).

We start off with a bit of the history I mentioned above to put the framework into perspective, and some essential background theory about audio sampling, video codecs and container formats. But it isn't long before we're looking at some code. Like Hillegass' books the code is always presented in the context of solving a problem or creating an app, which is much more approachable than dry out-of-context code samples from the API Reference or StackOverflow. And of course each chapter ends with a Challenge to encourage you to put what you've learned into practice as soon as possible.

Just before starting with this book I wanted to add a new feature to one of our apps: saving out thumbnail images from .mov files. I already knew how to do this using QTKit and needed to "translate" my code for AV Foundation. Reading Apple's APIs pointed me to the right class, but the docs are primarily focussed on describing each of the methods. A quick search of "Learning AV Foundation" for the AVAssetImageGenerator class struck gold, with a clear description of the steps and a code sample that showed me exactly what to do. It literally saved me hours.

In the first section the framework's classes are covered in a logical progression of chapters, from the audio classes, to assets and metadata classes, to video classes, and the simplified AVKit classes. Metadata is a particular interest of mine and has a reputation for being an especially dry subject, but it's covered exceptionally well (meaning too much detail for most but plenty of substance for someone like me!). Each chapter contains at least one sample app with code listings and cover relevant concepts (such as CMTime/CMTimeRange and Movie Modernization) in context as they're needed.

The second section on Media Capture covers the input and output classes, and even face detection and bar code/QR code detection (had no idea AV Foundation could do that!). Each chapter builds a sample app using the appropriate classes, and provides the code samples as you'd expect.

By the time you get to the last section on Media Creation and Editing you know exactly what to expect. These chapters work towards building a cuts-only video editing application that composites video and audio, and plays back and exports the composition. This app subsequently grows through later chapters to include audio mixing (volume changes, fades and ducking); video transitions (dissolves, pushes, wipes); and animated images and title overlays using Core Animation. Really comprehensive!

I've been watching WWDC developer videos and reading the API docs on AV Foundation since it was first introduced, but I was surprised at how much I learned from this book. It'd be a great resource for iOS developers wanting to add video, audio or camera support to their app, or for someone like me ready to move on from QuickTime.

Good intro pre WWDC 2014

It's clear and well written. Excellent intros on video file formats and fundamental points you need to understand in that space.
Sadly has absolutely nothing about AVAudioEngine. (though he is currently doing some lectures on it...). For the pre WWDC 2014 AV Foundation, this is great. But don't expect depth of coverage for anything new in OS X 10.10 or iOS 8.0

Essential guide for low-level AV capture and manipulation.

Widely known as *the* independent expert on AV Foundation, Bob McCune's book on this tricky framework is an indispensable aid for those working with low-level audiovisual elements in Cocoa or CocoaTouch.

There are several easy ways to perform the basics of image, video, and audio capture and playback. If that is the limits of your use-cases, you don't need this book. But if, for instance, you want to do perform realtime analysis on AV inputs, edit video or mix audio, or perform advanced compositing, this book will save you from dozens of crashes and lost hours.

It's not a book that belongs on every developer's bookshelf, but for people who have to understand low-level AV manipulation, it deserves the 5 stars.
