How this distinguished colleague of Bernard Berenson and Kenneth Clark honed his analytical skills and rose to eminent positions at the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum and New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art should make for a fascinating story, but this genteel self-portrait does not live up to its title. Son of a formidable, dynamic mother and a soldier father who painted watercolors, Pope-Hennessy offers sporadic, tantalizing glimpses of such notables as Margaret Thatcher and connoisseur/spy Anthony Blunt.

Born to a privileged British family, he became a specialist in Italian Renaissance art and sculpture, notably Sienese quattrocento art. His scholarly publications and lectures earned him prestigious faculty positions that led to directorships at the Victoria and Albert Museum and the British Museum and later as Consultative Chairman of the European Paintings Department at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. His biography contains a firsthand account of museum administration including a peek into the basements, boardrooms, and offices of these mysterious institutions. At 77, Pope-Hennessy now resides in Florence. Not one to mince words, he offers a narrative ranging from rather terse comments to highly amusing anecdotes. A Great Guide to Creating Your Ideal Lifestyle Business

The title of the book might be a little misleading. There are tons of books which lead you to believe that anyone can become rich by becoming an Internet entrepreneur. Click Millionaires is certainly about how to have the lifestyle you want based on an Internet business, the focus is more on defining and achieving the lifestyle you want than getting rich.

Said differently, this is not a get rich quick book. This book gives you a very good foundation for starting and growing an Internet business which will provide the lifestyle you want. Getting rich often involves much more work than most people are willing to do. So the first step is getting realistic about the lifestyle and the level of effort you are comfortable putting into your business.

The book contains some excellent advice about how to start and grow an Internet based business. Some of the advice applies to any business. I believe that too many people fail because they do not adhere to the lessons taught by Scott Fox, the author.

Far too many people think they need to come up with the next Google/Facebook or Netflex idea to be able to have a sustainable business. Mr. Fox advises that instead of focusing on inventing the next blockbuster product, "you should invest your start-up time in finding people you can help, needs you can fill, problems you can solve - and building an audience around serving that customer demand." I have seen too many people develop a wonderful solution to a non-existent problem, then struggle to find people willing to buy their solution. This is so critical to your success. Discover a problem that is out there and develop a solution. Don't start with the solution.

Another huge bit of advice is "Don't go broke trying to pursue ideas that are too big or too long-term." Instead of trying to make millions, make the first dollar as soon as you can. Validate the concept - that there is someone willing to pay for the solution you are offering.

The book takes a systematic approach to developing an Internet based business. Mr. Fox starts with getting clear about the lifestyle you want - he is a big advocate of work less, live more. His philosophy is you need to have a good balance between work and life. Don't strive for making so much money that you lose sight of the purpose for making money - to enjoy life.

He then guides you through the different business models which work well as Internet based businesses. Next he discusses affiliate marketing, network marketing - also known as Multi-Level Marketing and then the large number of contract/freelancing opportunities available.

There is a section on how to identify a niche which fits you, your skills and your lifestyle. Then a section on the nuts and bolts of building your business and making money.

The book is well written, the examples are straightforward and easy to understand. In my opinion the book gives some very good, solid, down to earth information and advice on how to start and run an Internet based business. Time and time again, Mr. Fox stresses that huge amounts of capital are not required. What is required is lots of time, energy and dedication. There is no quick easy way to build a sustainable business. He gives some very sound advice on identifying niche markets which offer the best opportunities. He also identifies markets to stay away from.

There are plenty of interviews and real life examples of ordinary folks who have made very comfortable incomes from their Internet based businesses.

This is a book for people who are serious about owing an Internet based business which will provide the lifestyle they want. Mr. Fox does not promise a quick or easy way to riches. The book is all about pointing out the right way to go about developing a business which will give you the lifestyle you want.

I prefer it to the 4-Hour Work Week

Having read the author's previous books Internet Riches and e-Riches 2.0, I thought this would be good. In fact I was wrong - it's excellent!
The author takes the reader through from the start, and asks them to examine their preferred lifestyle and goals. The book then moves through a number of internet business strategies with real life examples of successes in niches that you wouldn't normally think profitable. Examples that spring to mind are a community based around chicken coops, a site reviewing remote control aircraft, and an air hostess who podcasts amusing stories and anecdotes.
Why do I prefer it to the 4-Hour Work Week? While 4HWW was a very good book and very funny to boot, I think Click Millionaires offers a lot more by way of strategies and example businesses, and it all seems more realistic. Scott Fox provides good, common sense business advice as well as the commentary on internet-based businesses. He also urges us to action - "reading is great but doing is better"!
Read this book for a really good range of business advice, lifestyle analysis, and diverse, affordable examples of businesses being run on the internet that might spur the reader to try something for themselves.

Click Millionaires Delivers

If you have questions ranging from how to build a website with little technical knowledge to trying to decide what type of business to go with then this book is for you. It is full of so much information that I am going to have to read it again. What makes this book truly fantastic is all of the real world examples of non-business people making a living with online businesses. Having real world examples opened my mind to what's possible in the online world if you work hard. Secondly, the real world examples gave me models that I can emulate. There is no more trying to "re-invent the wheel" or trying to come up with the next "Facebook". Other tips and strategies I found useful were:

1. Start carrying around an Idea Journal to capture all of your ideas.

2. Try to work for a balance of passion and profit.

3. Use the internet in your spare time to immerse yourself in whatever niche you are trying to become successful in.

This book has a lot of great content in addition to what I've mentioned. You won't be disappointed if you try it out.

Good story about love

Kate is raising her young brother who is ill after her parents died in a car accident. She's in deep debt over the medical care and calls an old family friend Daire for assistance. He's very rich and trains women for sale as "pets" or companions for a year for a great sum of money. He spent a month training Kate and they develop strong emotions for each other. This book has guilt, jealousy, despair, fear, and the redemption power of love. I would have enjoyed it more if it was fleshed out in greater detail. Some events were rushed and some of the people mentioned were simply named and ignored. But I did enjoy it.

I enjoyed the story and characters. However, if poor editing bothers you this is not the book for you. There was some huge glaring errors and lots of little ones that distracted from the events written on the page.

I received this book as a gift. It has something for everyone both personally and professionally. Now that its available in the US I hope I'm "ahead of the curve" to use it for holiday and client gift giving. It's a really quick read with practical ideas you think about long after you finish it.

So inspiring, hopeful, and uplifting

This is one of the most hopeful and inspiring books I had read. I loved it so much that I bought copies to give as Christmas gifts! Very uplifting !!! And it is such a nice reminder that opportunity is always here, and that every plot (no matter where in the forest) has the potential to succeed. It's what we think, act, and do that makes it successful or not.

This is a very good book. Unlike a lot of other books that keep going on and on over hundreds of pages basically trying to make the same point, this book has a very good short story that's easy to understand and unforgettable. I want to read it to my kids someday.

It's a Boy Scout manual with a couple weapons' overviews and the words "zombie" and "undead" sprinkled here and there. Its illustrations are futile attempts at humor (apparently the undead like to make graffiti?). Its subject matter isn't even the horrific Romero or Brooksian zombies. No, they use the campy, comedic relief "Braaaaains" zombies. And even then, as I said, most of the book doesn't even cover how to deal with them!

Terrible book desperately attempting to grasp onto the success of Max Brook's far superior Zombie Survival Guide and the recent resurgence zombie fandom as a result of said book. Avoid this like the undead plague.

Seems like it is missing something

If you ever read Max Brooks' Zombie Survival Guide, then you would have the basic idea of what this book is about.

The book is written on the grounds that you are a US Army solider. In the beginning you swear an oath that you will do what you have to do.

The book is divided up into many sections. Mostly related on the grounds of first aid, survival, weapon training, evasion, defense, offense, and so on.

I could see many potential of this book, but I think it somehow fails to deliver. The reason I think it fails to deliver is because the book attempts to explain real life training, but push in "zombie" stuff. For example, in the weapons section of the book, it explains about the M9, M4, M16, etc. It goes on to explain the fire rate, the capacity, and so on. Then to make it "zombie" it just paints a picture of a zombie on it. In other sections it explains about camouflage, but to add that "zombie" effect, it just says, "Be sure to stay hidden from zombies." There is one section about target practice, and it shows a score card, but to make it a "zombie," the author just painted zombies all over the card. Then in First Aid sections, it explains about how to carry people, and so on, but to add that "zombie" feeling, the diagrams just show soldiers with "Brainz" written on their helmets or they show diagrams of proper first aid, but put an obvious zombie bite to simulate injuries. I mean it's sort of like taking a Dodge, then putting a Ford sticker on it, then talking about how great Dodges are. I felt the author picked up a copy of an actual US Army manual, then to turn it into a zombie knock off, the author just added in some pictures of zombies, add some stuff about zombies between the paragraphs, then shipped it out. The zombie theme of the book felt more forced than just funny.

Zombie is just a word in this book.

If you are looking for anything zombie related, this book is not for you. It's essentially a combat manual (or combat manual like) book with the word zombie thrown in periodically. For example, it explains how to choose a machine gun emplacement from within a house and it tells you to avoid obvious windows and doors because it will be under surveillance from the enemy. The enemy are supposed to be zombies!!! They don't observe machine guns! The author doesn't even really TRY to make an imaginary attempt at a zombie threat with modified tactics to fit.

Even the illustrations don't make much sense. They show soldiers checking zombie bodies for life by sticking their fingers in the bodies mouth and performing CPR on OBVIOUSLY ILLUSTRATED ZOMBIES!

All in all HORRIBLE and out right INSULTING if you are looking for a zombie book.

Tries too much and achieves too little

This book's premise seems simple enough. The 2000 ISO:9000 standards differ from previous ISO:9000 standards in that they require a greater focus on the customer. Companies going for certification need to demonstrate that they have systems in place for identifying customer needs, measuring the extent to which those needs are being met, and making improvements where necessary. At first glance, this book appears to be an attempt to help companies qualify for certification by explaining how to measure customer satisfaction in a way that satisfies the standard.
In an apparent attempt at simplification, the implicit assumption is made that the reader knows nothing about ISO standards or customer satisfaction measurement. Since customer satisfaction measurement relies on an understanding of research methods and statistics, there seems to be a similar assumption that the reader might not know anything about those either. And that's the crux of the problem. ISO standards, customer satisfaction, research methods and statistics are all big topics in their own right and deserving of at least a full book's worth of explanation.
I'm not sure that any single book could do justice to all of those topics simultaneously, but I know this one does not. I suspect that the amount of detail included would overwhelm a person who truly didn't know anything about any of those topics before picking it up. On the other hand, the book does not provide enough detail to be useful to those who do have knowledge of at least some of the topics. Also, the fact that so much is included would make it easy to lose the forest among the trees. For example, the section on reporting results is longer than the section on identifying customer requirements, but of course if you've done a bad job on the latter, the former is a waste of time.
To make matters worse, the book is cluttered with boxes and lists named things like `step-by-step' and `checkpoints.' These are interspersed throughout the text, and while they may have been an attempt at clarity or simplicity, the result is just the opposite. They make the book seem even more disjointed.
If you just want to know about measuring customer satisfaction, you would be much better off buying the book with that title by James H. Myers. If part of your reason for wanting to know about measuring customer satisfaction is to put systems in place to meet the ISO standard, you would be better off buying the Myers book plus one of the more recent general books about the ISO standards (since customer focus was one of the major changes to the standards, all new ISO books discuss this issue).

A major key to ISO 9001:2000 certification

There is a single sentence in the new ISO 9001:2000 requirements that makes this book essential: "Customer perception, as to whether customer requirements have been met, shall be monitored". This book's sole purpose is to provide you with ISO 9001-friendly techniques for meeting the requirements in that sentence. The author provides a clear, 7-step process for tackling that daunting task:
(1) Identify your customers.
(2) Identify their requirements. (Maps to ISO requirements 5.2, 7.2.1).
(3) Determine what you're going to measure, and how.
(4) Measure satisfaction based on step 3. (Maps to ISO requirement 8.2.1).
(5) Analyze the data. (Maps to ISO requirement 8.4).
(6) Report the results.
(7) Communicate the results and employ continuous improvement methods. This complies with the change from the 1994 version in that continual improvement is now required, where it was only implied in the 1994 version.
What makes this book so valuable is that it reduces the complexities for meeting each of the requirements using the process to a series of steps in each process stage. Each chapter contains a summary of the goals, then gives step-by-step procedures needed to attain the goals, and identifies the deliverables that must be produced. This sounds simple on the surface. In reality implementing customer satisfaction requirements management, measurement and continuous improvement is a complex undertaking that not only touches virtually all parts of an enterprise, but also mandates a change in corporate culture.
Additional value in the form of worksheets and checklists covered in the appendices (and provided in electronic format on the CD ROM) make this book absolutely essential to any company that is pursuing certification (or are re certifying under the 2000 version).
Additional features of this book include: the author's extensive experience in customer satisfaction management is condensed into this reasonably short book, the book layout makes it easy to follow and find information, and the straightforward manner in which necessary information is presented. This is the only book, to the best of my knowledge, that solely focuses on this aspect of ISO 9001:2000. Fortunately, it covers all of the essentials and leads you step-by-step through the process of meeting this important set of requirements. I personally believe that it's the key to getting certified under the 2000 requirements because of the scope and magnitude of effort that is required to comply with a seemingly innocuous requirement that can be a major barrier to achieving certification.

Great Book Great Service

I read the book review pages on line and contrary to the mixed reviews I bought it. The book is great. The company I work for is in initial stages of becoming ISO 9000 Compliant. I have be given the task of developing the Customer Satisfaction Measurement process. We are a large Consulting Company with over 600 Associates signed up and in our Expert Database.

This book is proving to be excellent.

The book was received within a few days of being ordered using standard book rate. The book was purchase as "Used" but I do not think it was ever opened.
